The fight over expanding the Delta Port Terminal heated up when a growing community group opposed to the proposed project met this afternoon.
Construction is already underway at Delta Port Terminal to improve truck traffic in and around the area and Port Metro Vancouver hopes this will be the beginning of extensive improvements and economic growth. However the group, Citizens Against Port Expansion says the increase in container traffic is a threat to the local environment.

The group, who have members from Surrey to Ladner and Tswwassen, joined together Saturday afternoon to talk about the increased traffic a new terminal would bring and the impact on migratory birds in the area. They believe the port should make better use of existing ports – particularly in Prince Rupert.
Port Metro Vancouver officials were invited to the meeting but declined saying “the multi-year, multi-round consultation process for this project provides many opportunities for those interested in providing their comments, both positive and negative.”
