Toronto-shot series ‘Hannibal’ to debut April 4

TORONTO – The made-in-Toronto series Hannibal will debut on U.S. television April 4.

Creator and executive producer Bryan Fuller made the announcement Thursday via social media, tweeting: “#Hannibal Requests the Honor of your Presence for Dinner.”

The show, based on characters created by Thomas Harris, stars Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter, Hugh Dancy as Special Agent Will Graham and Laurence Fishburne as Agent Jack Crawford.

Canadian actor Scott Thompson is also a series regular.

Production of 13 episodes wrapped up Tuesday in Toronto, where the series has been shooting since late last summer.

Hannibal will air Thursday nights at 10 p.m. starting April 4 on NBC.

The titular character has been portrayed on the big screen in films like Silence of the Lambs, Manhunter and Hannibal Rising by Anthony Hopkins, Brian Cox and Gaspard Ulliel.

Mikkelsen, best known for his role in 2006’s Casino Royale, most recently starred in A Royal Affair.
