Single-vehicle crash in southeast London leaves 86-year-old man dead

London police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in the city’s southeast end late Tuesday night that claimed the life of an 86-year-old man.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Wilton Grove Road, south of Hwy. 401, around 11 p.m.

Investigators have determined that the vehicle involved was travelling south on Veterans when it continued through the three-way-junction at Wilton Grove and came to a stop in a bush south of the roadway.

The vehicle’s male driver was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The victim has been identified as Peter Gordon Potter, 86, of Belmont, Ont.

In a statement Wednesday, police said they did not suspect alcohol to be a factor in the crash, adding the incident remained under investigation by the Traffic Management Unit.
