A Calgary police officer accused of assault during a traffic stop in 2008 has been found not guilty.
In January, Const. Brant Derrick was charged with assault causing bodily harm following a lengthy investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
ASIRT said the charges came out of the use of force during the arrest of Jason Arkinstall, who was wearing a Hells Angels T-shirt at the time, on Aug. 31, 2008, as well as evidence given during Arkinstall’s trial where he was accused of uttering threats against Derrick. Arkinstall was later acquitted following the trial.
According to Alberta Justice, Derrick was found not guilty in court on Tuesday.

Assault charges against another officer in that investigation, current Calgary Police Association president Les Kaminski, were dropped over the summer.
Kaminski still faces one count of perjury. He is expected to go to trial on that charge in February.
