Weekend arrest in Winnipeg under review by IIU

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating a weekend arrest in Winnipeg that resulted in the suspect being injured.

Winnipeg police told the IIU officers responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress on Arthur Street Sunday afternoon. During the arrest, police said the suspect resisted and officers allegedly took steps to control the situation and take the 25-year old suspect into custody.

The man was treated in hospital for fractures and a broken jaw.  The case was referred to the IIU for review because of the severity of the injuries.

The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether occurring on or off duty.
