A cyclist is in Vernon hospital with serious injuries after he was run over by a pickup truck.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 6 and 27th Street.

Police say the 43-year-old bike rider entered the intersection on a green light when he was struck and trapped under the truck.

He was freed by emergency crews and rushed to hospital.

“With the winter road conditions, such as ice and snow, RCMP are reminding pedestrians and cyclists to follow the rules of the road and to cross at well lighted cross walks or intersections.” said Cst. Kelly Brett in a news release.

“With cooler temperatures arriving icy road conditions are prevalent thus making it harder for drivers to react and stop quickly.”

Brett says the investigation is ongoing but witnesses report the cyclist was at fault so the pickup driver did not receive any violation tickets.
