Fire crews were called just before 4 a.m. to the Silver Berry neighbourhood.

“Six firetrucks arrived with 24 firefighters involved,” District Chief Kim Grummette said. “The front of the house was fully involved at the time.”

Smoke could be seen coming out of the home on Silver Berry Road, near 29a Avenue, where windows were broken, the porch roof was destroyed, and fire damage could be seen across the front of the house and up to the main roof as well.

Two people made it safely out of the home with six dogs: a female, her four puppies, and two other dogs. Grummette said they are being taken into the care of animal control.

Grummette said crews arrived about four minutes after being called, as the nearest fire hall, Station 26, is only about 10 blocks away from the scene.

It’s not yet know how the fire started.
