Suspect in custody after man stabbed, baby critically injured near Sherway Gardens: police

Toronto police say a woman is in custody after a man was stabbed and a baby was critically injured near CF Sherway Gardens mall in the city’s west end.

Police said two people, a man a four-month-old baby girl, were injured on Wednesday morning around 8:35 a.m. in the lobby of a condo building near Sherway Gardens Road and Evans Avenue.

Toronto paramedics said the baby suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital via an emergency run.

Police had initially said the baby was also stabbed but further investigation found the infant’s injuries were not attributed to stab wounds.

Police said the man was also transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Part of the event happened in the lobby and we’re looking to find out any other locations where something might have happened,” Det. David Knowles told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.

Police have not revealed the relationship between the two adults and the baby.

“We’re looking into that,” Knowles said. “We’re trying to determine what all the relationships are at this point.”

Police said in a tweet a woman had initially fled the area and was considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities later said the woman was arrested and she was also found suffering from unknown injuries.
