Trent University aims to raise $75,000 for Giving Tuesday. Trent University

Trent University hopes the community is in the giving mood as it aims to raise $75,000 in 25 hours during Giving Tuesday.

It’s the Peterborough university’s most ambitious single-day fundraising campaign, which supports Trent’s college system.

“We felt that this was the right time to launch this initiative,” said Julie Davis, vice-president of external relations and advancement.

“The college communities are an essential part of the Trent experience. More than residence buildings, the colleges promote learning, embrace diversity, and lead to friendships that last a lifetime.”

The #CrushtheCollegeChallenge campaign launches at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, aiming to raise $15,000 for each of Trent’s five colleges: Champlain College, Gzwoski College, Lady Eaton College, Traill College and Otonabee College.

Trent hopes alumni who “fiercely identify” with their college will support the campaign. Students on Tuesday will be showing their college pride during College Spirit Day.

“The college heads, faculty, staff, and alumni have been an integral part of this ambitious project,” said Lee Hays, a 1998 graduate and director of Alumni Affairs.

“Our alumni are so immensely passionate about their colleges, and it’s wonderful to see this outpouring of support. This is truly a team effort.”

Trent University president Leo Groarke’s office has also issued a challenge to all Trent alumni. The college that reaches its goal first will receive an additional $5,000, and the college with the greatest percentage of alumni giving will also receive an additional $5,000.

The university stated that as part of its “Unleash the Potential” $50-million campaign, the money raised for each college will go toward building endowments to provide a “sustainable, perpetual, dependable source of funds” for use by the college head to assist students.
