Two construction workers suffered multiple injuries after falling Tuesday from the new fire hall currently under construction near Minden, Ont.
Minden Hills Township interim fire chief Mike Bekking tells CHEX News it appears the roof’s trusses collapsed. Work on the rooftop of the new facility along Highway 35 started this week.
Firefighters responded around 1:30 p.m..
Kawartha Lakes OPP said on Wednesday that a 29-year-old man from Bracebridge and a 33-year-old from Burlington were both taken to hospital. One was subsequently airlifted to a Toronto area hospital with major injuries.
Ground was broken in July for the new building just south of Minden, approximately 100 kilometres north of Peterborough.
The Minden Times newspaper reports that one injured worker is an employee with Greystone Construction Ltd., of Huntsville, Ont. Owner Pat Dube did not have details on the accident.
The near $2-million project will replace the existing fire hall on Prince St. in downtown Minden which opened in the 1970s and sustained flood damage four years ago.
OPP say the Ministry of Labour is conducting an investigation.
