Kelowna Legion has record-breaking poppy campaign

This year was another record-breaking year for the Kelowna branch of the Royal Canadian Legion’s poppy campaign.

Poppy sales in the Okanagan city raised $184,209.

The money goes towards veterans assistance, military family bursaries, cadet programs and hospitals, including the Veterans Hospital in Vancouver.

This year’s campaign was off to a slow start because there weren’t enough volunteers.

“The media stepped up, and we were overwhelmed with the help we got, and they put us over the top,” poppy chair John Cashin said.

This year’s total for the Kelowna poppy campaign broke last year’s record by more than $8,000.
