Three people, two men and a woman, were sent to hospital after Regina Police responded to a weapons call in the 600 block of Montague Street. Police say they were victims of a serious assault.
It happened at approximately 3:40 a.m. Friday. A witness described about a dozen police cruisers in the North Central neighborhood and an ambulance rushing to the scene.
An investigation into reports of firearms and an edged weapons is ongoing. Currently, police haven’t made any arrests.
International students at the University of Regina, Hoi Bui and Thuyngaui Nguyen live beside the residence police quartered off as they conduct the investigation.
Both said their neighbours frequently play loud music into the night and it is often quite loud. Early Friday morning was the first time they experienced a police presence at their neighbour’s home.
“At 3:40 a.m. when I woke up I saw many police cars over there,” Bui said.
“The event this morning is still very scary.”
Bui has lived on Montague Street for six months, Nguyen for one month. She said she is often nervous in the neighbourhood.
“Even walking to Safeway to buy some groceries I have to be nervous all the time. Just seeing who’s behind me, and looking around. It’s tough, it’s just not right,” Nguyen said.
Both are hopeful for an increased police presence in the area following Friday’s incident.
“After today maybe I’ll be thinking about moving out, to another place,” Bui said.
