Maple Leaf Foods-run bakery shutting down in Grand Falls, N.B.

A bakery controlled by Maple Leaf Foods is shutting down a factory in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, and eliminating about 75 jobs at the plant.

Canada Bread Co. Limited said yesterday it’s shifting the production of English muffins out of the facility, and will discontinue a line of sweet goods made there.

The Grand Falls bakery will close on June 28th.

The company says it is also eliminating 46 jobs and closing a bakery in Edmonton.

The company says the closures are necessary due to rising costs for raw materials and a need for the company to become more efficient. 

Maple Leaf Foods owns 90 per cent of Canada Bread.
