What could have been a horrible story had a happy ending after a dog was found abandoned, and duct taped inside a box on Monday.
An animal rescue group said someone driving through the area just east of Ste. Agathe saw the box moving on the side of the highway and found a west highland terrier trapped inside.
Not knowing what to do, the good Samaritans called the Rural Municipality. A councillor recommended they contact April Pelland in Ile des Chenes who works at a rescue, Save a Dog Network Canada who took the pup in.
“I’m fostering him for now and when the time is right we’ll find an adopting rescue so that he can go into another rescue organization under their umbrella and get adopted through them,” Pelland said Wednesday. “I don’t see any issues, he’s good with the dogs, he’s fine with my cats, he loves my daughter.”
“My daughter’s six, the moment he saw her that was his person to love.”
“My parents brought her home and he just looked at her and jumped over the gate, it’s not a high gate, jumped over the gate and just ran up to her and jumped on her and started licking her and that was it, that’s her buddy now,” Pelland said.
Pelland said the dog, named Gimli by her daughter, is around two years old.

“There’s always an option,” Pelland said when asked about anyone else doing the same thing.
“There’s always a rescue, do a quick Google search, go on Facebook, ask around. There’s so many rescues that don’t ask questions. You don’t want your dog anymore, they take it, they assess it whether there’s a problem medically, temperament, anything. And we’ll deal with it humanely.”
There is no word on who the owner might have been.
