The Christmas season is now in full swing and Santa Claus has a busy weekend ahead with many parades scheduled including stops in Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph.
Kitchener-Waterloo
When: Saturday, Nov. 18 – 10:30 a.m.
Route: The parade will begin at the intersection of Weber and Frederick streets at around 10:30 a.m. It will head north on Weber Street and end at Erb Street in Waterloo. The entire parade should take about 90 minutes.
Cambridge
When: Saturday, Nov. 18 – 6 p.m.
Route: The 45th edition of the Cambridge Santa Claus Parade gets underway a few hours after the Kitchener-Waterloo parade and takes places on Hespeler Road, from Avenue Road to Langs Drive.
Guelph
When: Sunday, Nov. 19 – 1:30 p.m.
Route: The parade will begin at the intersection of Powell and Norfolk Streets. Heading south, the parade will stay on Norfolk Street and turn left on Quebec Street, then left on Wyndham Street North before ending at city hall.
Along with the parade itself, Guelph will also be hosting a number of activities on Saturday.
The third annual Santa Run takes place on the parade route in the minutes before the parade starts.
It’s a three-kilometre run and money raised will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph.
“We’ve got about 200 people dressed as Santa who are going to run the route before the parade at one o’clock, which is super fun to see,” said parade organizer Sam Jewell. “You can run with your baby in a stroller in front of you, you can walk as well, it’s only three kilometres.”
Jewell said runners can register right up until Sunday.
Non-perishable food items will be collected by the Guelph Food Bank and the kids can bring their letters to Santa to be picked up by Canada Post.
After the race, there will be milk and cookies with Santa Claus at Old Quebec Street Shoppes.
“We try and make it worthwhile for people coming downtown,” Jewell said.
