Prince Albert police dog tracks down man accused of stealing car

A police dog in Prince Albert, Sask., helped officers track down a man accused of stealing a car.

The car was stolen at around 9:30 p.m. CT on Monday when it was left running unattended.

Patrol officers spotted the car around an hour later in the area of 6th Avenue East and 15th Street East.

They attempted to stop the car a short time later in the 500-block of 22nd Street East but the driver refused to pull over.

A brief chased ensued before it was discontinued by police due to public safety concerns.

The car was located abandoned in the 700-block of 21 Street East.

The area was contained and a track by police dog Daxa located a man hiding in the 500-block of 28 Street East.

Police said he surrendered to officers.

The 24-year-old Prince Albert man is charged with evading police, driving a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, possession of stolen property and driving while disqualified.

He made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
