PRINCE ALBERT – Restrictions are in place at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert after a norovirus outbreak.

Visitors are not being allowed on the 36 bed medical-palliative unit (level 5) after five patients and staff became ill with gastrointestinal symptoms this week.

The outbreak was confirmed on Tuesday by Medical Health Officer Dr. Khami Chokani.

The unit is closed and will remain so until the outbreak is declared over.

Exceptions for visits are being made in extenuating circumstances and will be reviewed by nursing staff and the medical health officer prior to visits taking place.

No admissions are being accepted and patient transfers from the unit to long-term care are on hold.

Discharges to home care and home will continue and transfers to other acute care facilities will happen as required.
