Man dies in collision between train and truck

 WAINWRIGHT, AB. – RCMP say a 42-year-old man was killed when a westbound CN train hit his pickup truck near Fabyan, Sunday morning.

Wainwright RCMP, the Wainwright Fire Rescue and the Wainwright EMS were dispatched to a collision between a vehicle and a train on Range Road 75 south of Fabyan, Alberta at 6:30 am on Jan. 27.

When officers arrived, they found a single vehicle rolled in the north ditch next to the Canadian National Railway track.

The driver of the truck, a 42-year-old man from Irma, was found dead.

RCMP say he was killed when his truck was hit by a westbound CN train.

The two CN employees in the train were not injured in the collision.

The CN line was closed for several hours while the RCMP and CN police investigated the collision.

The railway and the road have since been re-opened.

RCMP say the rail crossing lights and warning arms were fully functional and operating properly at the time of the collision.

CN has repaired the damage to the signals that occurred during the collision.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this collision.
