Thamer Almestadi, 18, was found not criminally responsible in B.C. Supreme court Thursday morning for an attack on a woman last year.
Almestadi was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The attack took place on UBC Vancouver campus Oct. 4, 2016 against a female UBC student.
The assault was stopped by students in the dorm, who detained Almestadi until police arrived. The victim of the attack has since recovered.

The trial against Almestadi started at the beginning of October. The Crown and Almestadi’s lawyer’s both argued for a ‘not criminally responsible’ outcome.
Almestadi will be transferred to Colony Farm psychiatric hospital.
