Emily Carr University has outgrown its home on Granville Island.
Premier Christy Clark announced this morning that the nationally and internationally recognized art and design school will be getting a new $134 million facility at the Great Northern Way campus.
“As part of B.C.’s Jobs Plan, it will encourage the kind of collaborations across the Great Northern Way Campus that will consolidate B.C.’s position as a leader in creative arts, media and design,” John Yap, Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology said.
At a total cost of roughly $134 million, the province will invest up to $113 million, with Emily Carr and other donors adding in the remaining monies needed for the final cost.
The new facility will house more than 1,800 students and offer studio and academic programs; learning support; administration and student campus services.
Construction is set to start in May 2014 and expected to be completed by July 2016.
