Vancouver’s Santa Claus parade will not be cancelled this year

After almost three weeks of uncertainty, the 2017 Santa Claus parade will arrive just in time for the holidays.

The parade had lost major financial backing when Rogers Communications decided to part ways with the event.

The Santa Claus Parade Society said that they faced a $150,000 shortfall with only two weeks to find a replacement sponsor.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Telus has stepped in to offer support.

“Everyone hearing this news today, sponsors, participating organizations, get your entries and your floats ready, because the parade is a go,” Jessica Walker, President of the Santa Claus Parade Society said Tuesday.

Approximately 300,000 people line the streets of downtown Vancouver for the parade. More than 2,000 participants, and 60 entries are usually featured.
