Two adults, two children and three dogs have been displaced following a house fire Tuesday morning in the northeast community of Whitehorn.

Firefighters were called to a home on Whiteview Close N.E. shortly before noon.

A neighbour called in and told crews she knew it was not just a backyard fire due to the dark nature of the smoke and the smell of burnt plastic.

When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames visible at the back of the bungalow.

At the same time, one of the residents of the home arrived and quickly let his three dogs out of the front of the house.

“I got off of work at about 11:30…I drove up in front of my house and there were people screaming that my house was on fire,” Robin McLaren said.

“I just saw smoke from the ceiling and I ran in and got my dogs and then went to the backyard.”

Firefighters cut holes in the roof to access the fire, which had made its way into the attic.

They were able to bring it under control quickly and keep it from spreading to neighbouring homes.

There were no injuries.

An investigator was on scene Tuesday afternoon to determine the cause and origin.
