A man who escaped from a house fire in Middle Sackville, N.S. on Friday is also being credited with saving the family’s pet.

Video taken from across the street on Darlington Drive by a neighbour shows Mark Saunders rushing out of the burning home with a dog.

Lisa Williams, who shot the video, told Global News in an email that Saunders is a “real life hero.”

According to a fire investigation report, there were two people in the home at the time of the fire on Friday evening.

Investigators believe the fire began in the garage and the ignition source was a short in an electrical panel. The fire has been ruled accidental and the estimated loss is $150,000.
