Fire crews spent more than 12 hours battling a blaze that swept through the downtown section of a Nova Scotia town Sunday night.
The blaze broke out at approximately 10:30 p.m. at a business on King Street. When the Bridgewater Fire Service arrived at the scene, they determined that the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

“Last night we had a fire in our downtown, the likes of which we have not seen in a very long time,” David Mitchell, Mayor of Bridgewater, N.S. wrote in a Facebook post on Monday morning.
In his post, Mitchell thanked the Bridgewater Fire Department as well as the “10 or so” other fire crews that responded to the town’s call for assistance.

“We are grateful that nobody was hurt and despite the loss of the businesses in the affected area, we know that our town is strong,” he wrote.
“We are not defined by events like this; we are defined by our people.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and Bridgewater police are on the scene.
A joint investigation with the province’s fire marshalls office and the Bridgewater fire service is also being conducted.
