OPP investigates collision involving prisoner transport vehicle

Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision involving a prisoner transport van.

Police were called to to the scene of a crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, west of Sweaburg Road in South-West Oxford Township at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

According to the media release, a van travelling in the shoulder lane slowed down due to traffic and was rear-ended by a tractor trailer.

The van was a Ministry of Correctional Services prisoner transport vehicle and had three correctional officers and one adult male prisoner in the vehicle.

The prisoner was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while two male correctional officers were transported to area hospital with minor injuries. The third correctional officer – a female – and the adult male driver of the transport truck were not injured.

Police are still investigating and charges are currently pending.
