Friends say the teen was intoxicated and tried to slide down the escalator, but that has not been confirmed by police.

“I ran down and asked someone to call 9-1-1 because my phone was dead and then I checked to make sure he was still breathing,” says Alex Verigan.

Police are still investigating, but say it does appear the teen fell from a significant height.
