Flowers, candles mark scene of fatal accident in Hammonds Plains, N.S.

A memorial has been set up near the scene of a fatal accident in Hammonds Plains, N.S.

Around 9:15 a.m. Friday, a vehicle travelling on Rochester Drive went off the road and overturned in a ditch.

A 17-year-old male youth was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday, nearly two dozen floral bouquets, along with several candles were placed by the accident site.

RCMP have not officially released the victim’s name however, he was a Grade 12 student at Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford, N.S.

A newsletter sent by the school to members of the community says that counsellors, a psychologist and other school board staff will be available to students in the coming days.

The driver of the vehicle – also a 17-year-old male youth – was released Friday afternoon without charges.

RCMP say their investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing and it may or may not result in a charge being laid at a later date.
