It appears residents of the Royal City are pretty happy with their quality of life.

That’s according to a survey conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs in April. The survey telephoned a randomly selected sample of 600 residents of Guelph for a 15-minute questionnaire, along with 300 others who participated in a volunteer survey online.

The survey went on to ask residents about the overall quality of life in the city, along with other topics such as the delivery of city services, and what they considered were major issues in the community.

The city says that the highest levels of satisfaction relate to quality of life. Residents rated the overall quality of life in the city as “good” or “very good” at a whopping 97 per cent level.

Of those who took the survey, 95 per cent agreed Guelph is a welcoming community, 94 per cent said they are proud to say they’re from Guelph and 88 per cent reported having a strong sense of belonging.

Satisfaction regarding the delivery of city services was also strong at 88 per cent, with a large majority of residents being quite satisfied with all 18 municipal services tested throughout the survey.

“Results from the survey show we’re meeting citizen expectations on many fronts and that’s very encouraging,” said Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie in a statement released by the city. “They also reveal where we need to focus to continue to ensure Guelph is the livable, welcoming community we all want and expect.”

Regarding the major issues brought up by the community, some identified infrastructure, road reconstruction and maintenance at 14 per cent. Urban development and growth were brought up in 10 per cent of the findings, while transit and transportation resulted in 10 per cent of the survey. Housing and availability came in at 8 per cent and property taxes at 7 per cent.

Findings from the survey will be presented to city council at its Oct. 23 meeting.
