Kingston’s Habitat for Humanity is offering something no other Habitat for Humanity branch in Canada has ever offered before – woodworking classes.
The not-for-profit organization began offering the courses at a workshop on Baiden Street in Portsmouth Village on Wednesday.
“Most of the people in this room have never even loaded a drill bit into a hand drill before,” Habitat Kingston’s director of special projects, Chris Norman said.

“Now after this two-part course, they will have used every tool in the shop from a simple compound mitre saw, to the best router you can find,” Norman added.
Courses range from introductory woodworking all the way to learning how to build your own home.
Fees generated from the initiative will go towards purchasing new land to build homes on.
