Body found in Statlu falls confirmed to be missing Australian hiker

Sophie Dowsley has been missing since July 8, 2017. She was last seen hiking near Agassiz, B.C. RCMP

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP has confirmed a body found in Statlu Falls near Agassiz last month was missing hiker Sophie Dowsley.

The 34-year-old Australian hiker and her 44-year-old partner Greg Tiffin were last seen in Harrison Hot Springs on July 8, and their car was found unoccupied near Statlu Lake shortly afterward.

A search of the area at the time turned up some of their belongings in fast-moving water beneath a treacherous waterfall.

Tiffin’s body was recovered on July 18, but police called off the search the following week and there was concern Dowsley would never be found.

Search and rescue crews located human remains in the area late last month, which have now been confirmed to be the missing hiker.
