Miami Beach police fatally shot a woman on Saturday evening after she drove her car into an occupied vehicle, before hitting a police officer who responded to the crash.
The woman ran a red light with her black BMW before hitting another BMW occupied by two males, police chief Daniel Oates told reporters.
As police officers responded to the crash, the suspect, described as a black female, accelerated the vehicle again and struck one of the officers.

She then proceeded to drive her car into another parked vehicle, before being shot by police. She was treated at the scene and transported to hospital, where she later died.
Witnesses told the Miami Herald that a group of bystanders followed the woman on foot as she drove away after the first crash, and before she struck the officer.
The officer sustained head injuries but is in stable condition.
Police said they are investigating what precipitated the incident.
