Miami Beach police fatally shot a woman on Saturday evening after she drove her car into an occupied vehicle, before hitting a police officer who responded to the crash.

The woman ran a red light with her black BMW before hitting another BMW occupied by two males, police chief Daniel Oates told reporters.

As police officers responded to the crash, the suspect, described as a black female, accelerated the vehicle again and struck one of the officers.

Witnesses told the Miami Herald that a group of bystanders followed the woman on foot as she drove away after the first crash, and before she struck the officer.
