The City of Winnipeg’s new canoe and kayak launch was officially opened Wednesday.
The launch site is located in Crescent Park, 781 Crescent Drive. The joint project between the City of Winnipeg, the Province of Manitoba and Crescent Park Rescue is expected to improve river access and encourage use of the waterway.

Provincial Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton said “supporting local infrastructure that builds active and healthy communities makes our province a better place to live, work and play.”
The launch features a removable aluminum alloy gangway and floating canoe/kayak dock, a concrete block/paving stone walkway and platform, and a new park bench. The improvement project also involved grading and reinforcement of the Red River shore line.
“The canoe/kayak dock will add to the outdoor recreation opportunities available at the Crescent Drive Park and at the adjacent Crescent Drive Golf Course,” Ronald Mazur, Chair of Crescent Park Rescue hailed the launch as a win for residents across south Winnipeg.
The total cost of the project was $187,000, funded in part by the city’s Riverbank Greenways Capital Program and the Building Communities Initiative, a cost-sharing partnership by the City of Winnipeg and Manitoba government.
