The arson squad is investigating what officials are describing as a suspicious fire in Côte-des-Neiges overnight.
At around 3 a.m. on Sunday, police received a 911 call reporting a fire behind a mixed-use building at the intersection of Côte-des-Neiges Road and Saint-Kevin Avenue.
According to police, the fire started in some trash or recycling bins located at the back of the three-storey structure, which houses two restaurants and 40 apartments.
No arrests have been made, but witnesses reported seeing a suspect flee the scene.
No one was injured in the fire but the building was evacuated and was heavily damaged.
Côte-des-Neiges Road was closed for several hours as firefighters tackled the blaze.
