Toronto-bound QEW reopens at Burlington Skyway after fatal crash

Mon, Sep 25: A fatal multi-vehicle collision has closed the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW at the Burlington Skyway – Sep 25, 2017

The Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW at the Burlington Skyway have reopened to traffic after a 51-year-old female motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle collision.

Ontario Provincial Police said the crash happened just before 6 a.m. Monday at Eastport Drive.

Police said the collision involved five vehicles, including a motorcycle, two passenger vehicles, a mini-van and a pickup truck.

“There was some contact with the motorcycle and the car, and it precipitated to a multi-vehicle chain reaction event where the motorcyclist was struck, sustaining critical injuries,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

Hamilton EMS said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schmidt confirmed a 51-year-old female rider from Hamilton was killed in the crash.

There’s no word yet on the exact cause of the collision.

Police said motorcycle fatalities have reached a 10-year high in Ontario with 37 recorded deaths so far this year.
