Dr. Emily Roback is a Calgary chiropractor diagnosed with hearing loss as a child. But she has overcome that adversity by not letting her challenges stop her from reaching her goals.
The hip hop routine Roback created is part of her vision to inspire and educate people. She goes into schools and organizations teaching healthy living, like proper nutrition and disguises fitness as being for fun.
“The hip hop and break dancing is cool and fun, and it’s exercise.”

Roback’s real message involves a healthy attitude and learning how to tackle challenges. She often tailors her message for others living with hearing loss.
“There’s no reason why you can’t achieve what you go about to, you can somehow make it happen.”
Roback shared her story about overcoming adversity in a book she wrote with her mother called “A Silent Cheer.”
Many people said Roback couldn’t handle chiropractic college or couldn’t get a book published, in both cases she proved them wrong.
“Hearing what you can’t do, I don’t listen to that.”
It’s a message she hopes will resonate with others.
“Ultimately [my goal] is to leave something behind, maybe put a bent in the universe, to maybe make a ripple effect globally.”
And that’s why she is this month’s Woman of Vision.
