A Saskatchewan police dog proved she’s one of the best in Canada at the 2017 national championship canine trials this past weekend.
The Prince Albert police team, comprised of Cst. Kelsey Bighetty and Daxa, was awarded first place in tracking at the annual Canadian Police Canine Association (CPCA) event held in Edmonton.

“It means that Daxa and I work as a team. It shows she’s an awesome tracking dog and it just shows she’s one of the best and she’s proven it,” Bighetty said in a press release.
Three years ago, the pair came in fourth place and were runners-up in 2016.
Prince Albert police said continuous on-duty training and a strong bond allowed them to secure first place this time around.

Daxa’s handler said he was especially proud of winning first in the tracking event, as it is one of the most distinguished profiles to win.
“Pretty proud of Daxa, we owe it to dedication, teamwork and the bond we have,” Bighetty said.
Forty-two teams from 14 agencies across Canada competed such in CPCA events as searching for evidence, criminal take downs as well as detecting drugs and explosives.
