In a news release issued on Monday, officials said only residents, leaseholders and business owners who have been contacted by Parks Canada will be allowed entry into the park.

The re-entry details were included as part of the latest update on the Kenow Mountain wildfire released on Monday afternoon.

The Waterton townsite has been under a mandatory evacuation order since Sept. 8, and is closed to all incoming traffic except emergency vehicles and other authorized personnel.

The Kenow Mountain fire remains active and is considered out of control, Parks Canada said on Monday.

As of Monday, the fire activity is mostly on the perimeter and at some localized hot spots. Officials said the fire now covers an estimated 38,100 hectares but did not grow overnight.

Officials also say the Castle Branch wildfire has seen little activity over the past few days.

That fire is now approximately 221 hectares in size.

Fire personnel continue work in the Waterton area to protect infrastructure, contain the fire in strategic locations and restore infrastructure to prepare for re-entry.

Meantime, a mandatory evacuation order for the M.D. of Pincher Creek affecting residents south of Oil Basin Road to the Waterton Park boundary has been rescinded.

The M.D. said Monday afternoon that Highway 6 is also open again.

Re-entry information packages for affected residents are available online or at the M.D. of Pincher Creek administration building.
