The Emmy Awards are being accused of omitting actors from their annual In Memoriam segment.
Every year, it seems that someone is missing from the list of celebrities honoured for their contributions to the industry. Among the “forgotten” this year were Erin Moran (Happy Days), Charlie Murphy (Chappelle’s Show, The Boondocks), legendary comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory, character actor Harry Dean Stanton (who passed away on Friday), Sam Shepard (Snow Falling on Cedars, Days of Heaven) and Frank Vincent (The Sopranos).

Like Stanton, Vincent died within a week of the show, but Murphy passed away in April and Gregory’s death was in August. Moran’s death from cancer was also in April, and Shepard passed away in late July. There was plenty of time to include the stars in the montage, which led the audience to believe they were either forgotten or purposefully left out.
Emmy watchers on social media pointed out the omissions almost immediately.
One noticed that Jerry Lewis, who was included in the segment, passed away within a day of Gregory.
The Emmys production team faced a lot of heat for missing these big names, especially when it made room in its segment for one-time chairman and CEO of Fox News Roger Ailes. (Ailes was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women prior to his death.)

Among those honoured in the In Memoriam segment were actors Bill Paxton, Alan Thicke, Roger Moore, Carrie Fisher, Adam West and Mary Tyler Moore, who closed out the montage.
The Emmys have not commented on the stars who weren’t included.
