A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a being hit by a commuter train at the Roxboro-Pierrefonds RTM station Tuesday.
Urgences-Santé said Wednesday the teen’s condition worsened overnight, and is still listed as “critical.”
Investigators are trying to determine if the victim was distracted by wearing headphones, which could mean that she walked the pedestrian crossing at the platform without accounting for a second train.
Some commuters told Global News that train stations need a retractable barrier to make it safer for pedestrians.
“You’re doing it for cars,” Tammy Chenier said.
“Cars can survive a train hit better than a person could.”
Chenier said she was on the Deux-Montagnes train that arrived after the accident.
The agency that manages the commuter rail system said it wants to see the result of the investigation into the accident before it recommends any safety features to its stations.
