Justin Cox, a former Saskatchewan Roughrider, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon in two separate incidents that last month.
On August 30, police received word of a woman in hospital who was the victim of an apparent physical assault. Someone who had assisted the victim, a 23-year-old woman, said that he happened upon what appeared to be a physical altercation while driving down 10th Avenue at around 6:15 p.m. The witness took the victim to the hospital and called police.
Cox and the victim are known to each other.
At around 7:00 p.m. that same day, Cox allegedly entered a business in the 1600 block of Albert Street, asking to use the phone, claiming he’d been robbed. The woman in the store asked if Cox wanted her to call police and he declined. He then left, but returned to get a hat he’d left behind. It was then that the woman alleges Cox pointed a firearm at her and then left.
Police arrested Cox later that evening at around 8:30 p.m. in front of a residence in the 900 block of Stanley Street.
He made his appearance in provincial court on the assault causing bodily harm charge on Aug. 31. He made his appearance on the assault with a weapon charge on September 1.
