A water ban was lifted for Strathcona County on Sunday as county officials said reservoir levels have returned to normal.

The ban went into place this past week after a broken valve and increased demand because of hot weather caused reservoirs to be depleted.

The valve had to be replaced after the county said construction by an EPCOR crew damaged it. An update had been expected Monday.

Affected communities included Sherwood Park, Ardrossan, Josephburg, Half Moon Lake, Collingwood Cove, Antler Lake and Fultonvale.

Residents had been asked to limit water use to essential needs only. In a statement, the county’s utilities director Jeff Hutton thanked “residents and business for their cooperation to conserve water during the ban.

“Safe water is our primary responsibility,” Hutton said. “While restrictions can be an inconvenience, they are critical to get the system back to normal and to avoid more serious implications.”

With the ban now lifted, water use is no longer restricted, and truck fills are also open once again.
