Officers with the London detachment of the RCMP say they’ve charged a woman, 61, with fraud for allegedly claiming her mother’s benefits after she died.
The RCMP investigation started in November 2016 when Veterans Affairs contacted them about an alleged fraud.

Veterans Affairs said it learned veteran survivor benefits were paid out for 14 months after the rightful recipient’s death.
“The RCMP respects the valued sacrifices veterans and their families have made for Canadians and is committed to protecting the integrity of the institutions appointed to care for them,” said Insp. Joe Czenze, Officer in Charge, London Detachment.
“This investigation highlights that fraud, as a crime, knows no boundaries.”

The RCMP alleges the suspect failed to notify Veterans Affairs of her mother’s death and continued to collect the cash, receiving over $26,000.
The woman has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and is due at the London Courthouse on Monday.
