A lack of safety equipment has resulted in separate occupational health and safety (OHS) fines for three Saskatchewan companies.
Each company pleaded guilty in Saskatoon provincial court on Aug. 24.

OHS violations included failing to ensure workers were wearing protective headwear and failing to ensure a fall protection system was used where a worker could fall three metres or more.
Cactus Roofing Ltd. was charged after an occupational health officer saw workers not using the necessary safety equipment on Oct. 28, 2016.
The company was fined $4,200.
Charges against Xray Roofing Inc. stemmed from a worksite inspection on June 20, 2016. It was fined $1,000 plus a $400 surcharge on each count for a total of $2,800.

Michael Groulx, operating as Mico Construction, pleaded guilty after an officer observed workers not using proper fall protection or safety equipment on Oct. 11, 2016.
It was fined $2,800. One additional charge was stayed in court.
No injuries occurred during the inspections.
Government officials said falls can cause serious injuries or death, however they are easily prevented with the proper equipment and training.
