Hundreds of vintage rides on display at annual Limestone City Car Show

About 350 classic cars from all eras were on display at Lake Ontario Park for the 5th annual Limestone City Car Show.

There’s a unique cause behind the annual event as proceeds benefit the local Melanoma Cancer Clinic at Kingston General Hospital (KGH).

“In the four years we’ve done it, we’ve raised $27,000 which we’ve donated to KGH so that’s fantastic,” said David Dick from the Limestone City Car Club.

A ride that got a lot of attention was a 1934 Chevy Cab or what the owner Pedro likes to call his “Rat Rod.”

Pedro is a former demolition derby driver from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. He souped-up his vehicle with unique items like his pal Phil, a skeleton in a coffin that rides in the back. That’s not even the wildest accessory. His bumper is made from an old hay mower blade and his lights are mason jars.

Pedro said he spent less than $2,000 on the car and all of its accessories which are things he collected over the years. It’s not just for show either — Pedro takes it on the road as well.

“It’s a head turner. People are amazed. You can see them, still, when they’re driving away, trying to figure out what it is. And that’s what I wanted,” said Pedro.

From sleek, compact convertibles to animalistic interiors, drivers from across the region shined up their ride for the thousands of spectators.

The owner of a fully restored 1931 Ford pickup said he has come to the annual show many times before because he loves showing off his vintage beauty.

“The gas tank is up on top as opposed to on the back. And the under carriage, the springs are a round shape and run crossways instead of front and back,” explained Ed Asselstine, from Verona.

At the end of the day, prizes are handed out for top of class, best in show, best paint job as well as special memorial trophies.
