The Sûreté du Québec is reminding motorists to drive safely over the Labour Day weekend.
To ensure compliance with the rules of the road, the SQ said in a news release, it will intensify its operations over the long holiday weekend.
The most common infractions include speeding, cellphone use behind the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt as well as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

According to the SQ, the cited infractions are also the most deadly.
“They are the most important contributing factors involving collisions with serious injuries or fatalities,” the statement reads.

In light of several recent collisions involving motorcycles, the SQ is cautioning drivers to be especially vigilant, especially when nearing intersections.
It is also recommending motorcyclists follow the following guidelines to avoid injuries and collisions:
- Wear a protective helmet that complies with current manufacturing standards and is properly secured
- Ensure visibility by wearing light-coloured clothing, and having a headlight on
- Wear clothing that provides protection in the event of an impact
In 2016, two fatal collisions were recorded on Quebec roads monitored by provincial police.
