Calgary police say it’s “not known how much of a threat” was posed by a suspicious package left in front a home in the community of Bowness on Wednesday.
Investigators were called to the 6300 block of 31 Avenue N.W. at around 7:15 a.m. after a passerby found a barrel with the word “explosives” on it sitting outside the home.
Officers cordoned off area roads and the Calgary Police Service bomb disposal unit was brought in to investigate.
Bomb technicians were able to neutralize the package at around 10:30 a.m., destroying the barrel. As of noon, police said the area was again safe for the public.
