Heat warnings were issued in Calgary, Lethbridge and various other parts of southern Alberta Monday afternoon.

“A ridge of high pressure moving into Alberta is bringing temperatures well above the seasonal average,” Environment Canada said in its alert.

The agency said maximum daytime highs are forecast to be near 30 C in Calgary and in the low 30s in Lethbridge until the weekend.
“Heat warnings for Alberta are issued when two consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 29 C and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to remain above or at 14 C,” Environment Canada said.
People are advised to drink lots of water, stay in cool places and never leave people or pets inside a parked car.
Symptoms of heat illness include dizziness, fainting, nausea, vomiting, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst and decreased urination with unusually dark urine.
