Lachute hit by F1 tornado during intense storm Tuesday

Lachute, a town about an hour northwest of Montreal, was hit by an F1 tornado during the intense storm that hit parts of Quebec Tuesday.

About 150 homes were damaged and 10 were evacuated; at least one that had its roof ripped off.

Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood was also hit hard: trees were knocked down, properties were damaged and power to the area was cut.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the storm, which produced winds of up to 100 km/h.

About 115,000 Hydro-Quebec customers lost power at the peak of the storm.

As of Wednesday morning, about 30,000 households remained without power.

The utility company confirmed that power for most customers will be restored by the end of day, but it could take a little longer for some.
