A long-abandoned hotel in the heart of Smiths Falls, Ont., is set to receive a facelift.
The Hotel Rideau, built in 1916, was left vacant more than 10 years ago.
Since then, the historic hotel had become somewhat of an eyesore. That is, until developer Park View Homes bought the property.
The company plans to turn the Rideau into a mix of condominiums and two retail spaces.
“Parkview homes is a major home builder and throughout Eastern Ontario. So they have a track record,” Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow said. “We know what they’ve done in the past.”
“We have confidence that they have the ability to follow through with this project. Later this year, and hopefully, it’s finished by early next year.”
