WATCH: Acting Insp. Paul Wozney says they want to find out what role Yu Chieh Liao played in a quadruple homicide in Calgary – Jul 20, 2017

Police say the woman “is believed to have played a significant role in the events that lead to the deaths” of the four individuals.

Glynnis Fox, her sister Tiffany Ear and Cody Pfeiffer were found dead in a burned car in Sage Hill on July 10. On July 12, the body of Hanock Afowerk, the registered owner of the car, was found in a ditch on Highway 22.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Homicide Unit confirmed last week that the deaths were connected, adding the four were “brutally” murdered.

“Though police are unable to elaborate, all victims suffered significant traumatic injuries,” CPS said in a release.

Investigators continue to look into the theory that Fox, Ear and Pfeiffer were caught up in a targeted attack against Afowerk, and believe many people could have been involved.

Investigators are now asking for the public’s help in locating 24-year-old Yu Chieh Liao, who goes by Diana Liao. She is described as being five feet, five inches tall and about 160 pounds with long dark hair and brown eyes.

CPS Major Crimes Acting Insp. Paul Wozney said Thursday that they’re aware of a relationship between Liao and Afowerk, but wouldn’t speak to the nature of that relationship.

“We are confident in the relationship that she had with Mr. Afowerk,” he said.

Officers say Liao has ties to Calgary, Vancouver, Moose Jaw, Regina and Toronto, and was last seen in Moose Jaw on July 12.

“I would describe Ms. Liao as having a rather nomadic lifestyle,” Wozney said.

“She frequents several different hotels, she uses rental vehicles. So it would be difficult to pinpoint any sort of community that she’s exclusively tied to.”

WATCH: The hunt is on for two people who may have “played a significant role” in the events that led to last week’s quadruple murder in Calgary. As Gil Tucker reports, police hope new photos will bring new leads and the family of the victims hopes it leads to arrests.

Wozney said police are working with law enforcement in the other cities to try to find her.

He added she could be travelling with an unknown male who is described as being small in stature.

Investigators are also exploring whether the unknown male is connected to the crime itself.

“We have information of a description of a black male who was at the scene of the fire, which was on July 10,” Wozney said. “And then also the fact that we have images of Ms. Liao and this unidentified male in Moose Jaw on July 12.”

They’re continuing to search for additional crime scenes, and are asking the public to pass on any information, photos or videos that could help their investigation.

“This is a very, very complex investigation,” Wozney said.

“Multiple pieces to it, multiple victims, multiple suspects and persons of interest and we are working as hard and as long as possible to really seek the truth as to what happened with this investigation.”
